We’re thrilled to announce that the Amica Newport Marathon was voted as the “Best Marathon in Rhode Island” and a “Top 20 Half Marathon in the USA” in 2018. In 2016 the race was voted as the “Best Half Marathon” and “Best Race Swag” in the Northeast.
The Amica Newport Marathon is proud to partner with local charitable organizations to help raise money and awareness. A 26.2 mile running tour of Aquidneck Island. This seaside USATF certified course showcases the best of Newport and Middletown, Rhode Island.
The scenic first half of the marathon course features historic Downtown Newport, Fort Adams, Ocean Drive and the famous Bellevue Avenue mansions.

Due to the number of participants, runners will be asked to organize by pace time with elite runners going off first and walkers going last. There will be volunteers and members of the race staff assisting with the pacing process. The Marathon and Half Marathon will start at 7:30 AM, with the three waves starting minutes apart.
• First Wave: Under 9 minute pace (Under 1:58 Half or 3:56 Full)
• Second Wave: 9 – 11 minute pace (Under 2:25 Half or 4:49 Full)
• Third Wave: 11+ minute pace (Under 3:30 Half or 6:00 Full)
Registered participants will receive a race bib and timing chip at registration which will be held October 11th & 12th at the Easton’s Beach Rotunda and on race morning, October 13th at Easton’s Beach.
Race Day – Easton’s Beach Rotunda (map) 5:15 a.m. – 7:15 a.m.
Runners can pick up their bib and timing chip on race morning, however it is strongly recommended that all runners attend Friday or Saturday registration to alleviate race morning delays.
Race participants picking up their bibs on Sunday will not receive their shirts and goody bags until after the race due to race day time constraints.
NO parking is available at the race start/finish area at Easton’s Beach. Race day parking is designated by which race participants are registered. Shuttles will provide transportation before and after the race. Enlarge Parking Map.
Please allow yourself ample time on race morning to park and board the shuttles.
Shuttle service will begin promptly at 5:00 AM and will run continuously. Please arrive early and queue up for the shuttles with race participants having priority over spectators. We strongly recommend all participants plan on being parked, and on a shuttle by 6:00 AM at the LATEST.
Shuttle service will run through 2:30 PM, providing rides back to the Second Beach and Aquidneck Island Industrial Park parking lots.
CARPOOL OR BIKE
Due to the number of registered participants, carpooling is strongly encouraged.
Ride your bike and reduce your carbon footprint! Bicycles can be locked in several areas around Easton’s Beach at the race start.
PLEASE RESPECT THE DUNES
The cities of Newport and Middletown are gracious hosts of the Amica Newport Marathon. We ask that all participants and spectators please respect Aquidneck Island’s beautiful ecosystem by disposing of all waste in proper receptacles, and staying off the fragile dunes at the beaches.
GEAR DROP OFF
Athletes wishing to drop off gear will be able to do so near the start/finish line at the Beach Pavilion at Easton’s Beach beginning at 6:00 AM on race morning. A designated drop off location will be set up and athletes will use the number they are given during registration to identify their gear bag. Athletes will need their own bag as they will not be provided by the event.

Running a marathon or half marathon is a tremendous personal achievement. We ask that all participants review the course map to familiarize themselves with the routes and aid station locations. » Interactive Map
Water, Gatorade and restrooms will be available roughly every two miles, at miles 2.1, 3.7, 4.1, 6.1, 7.5, 9.0, 11.1, 13.2, 15.4, 17.3, 18.9, 20.6, 22.4, and 24.
Bananas, GU Energy gels and medical stations will be offered at select marathon aid stations. Please review the course map to see the specific aid station offerings.
Runners and walkers are welcome to participate, however, on course-aid and roads can only be secured, volunteers on the course and aid stations staffed for a set amount of time.
All participants must be able to finish in 6 hours for the marathon, and 3.5 hours for the half-marathon. This requires a pace of 16:01 per mile. for the half marathon, and 13:44 per mile for the marathon. Runners who do not meet the cutoffs will be asked to move to the sidewalk and/or escorted to the finish area in a vehicle, as determined by race officials.
Both the marathon and half-marathon courses are beautiful but both also feature their share of rolling hills – particularly the second half of the marathon on Middletown’s quiet, rural roads. We encourage runners to review the course and prepare for these hills, particularly if they are chasing personal bests or qualifying times. An elevation chart can be found on the course map.
Memorial Blvd. in front of Easton’s Beach will close at 7:00 AM, traffic will be diverted. Memorial Blvd. will be impacted until roughly 8:00 AM. Thames St. will be closed from about 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM. Roads will mostly remain open with police details at intersections. Expect delays. Runners will remain on roads in Newport until approximately 11:00 AM and in Middletown until approximately 1:30 PM.
A finisher’s medal will be given to all 26.2 and 13.1 race participants.
Awards will be presented following the race to the:

45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+)
